My work focuses on equity in the transition from K-12 to college reading, writing, and research. My first book, The Indispensable Guide to Undergraduate Research: Success in and Beyond College from Teachers College Press, prepares students for undergraduate research in college. (Read more about the book and the William and Mary Scholars program behind the book on the site Public University Honors).
I grew up in Richmond, VA, have lived and taught public school in Norfolk, VA, and currently live in Williamsburg, VA. I am a student at the College of William & Mary for the second time, now working on my doctorate. I first graduated from W&M with a BA in Linguistics in 2007. I have an MSEd in Reading/Writing/Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Sociolinguistics from North Carolina State University.
